Slim

Slim, a great blue heron, came each morning to breakfast with my in laws for more than 10 years. He would fly in, land and walk along the house looking in the windows for my mother-in-law. She got chicken gizzards for him. My father-in-law insisted that Slim was in love with Mother. In the spring, Slim would bring stick and branches to Mother. In the photo, Slim had just caught a gizzard that Mother threw him. In the early spring of 2011, my in-laws neighbors found Slim’s body. They don’t know how he died, but he is missed.
